Book Checks
The following are the procedures pertaining to comparing our copy to the donated book.
- There will be books with pink gift processing slips in each one on a book truck. You will be told to do book checks for each one. Take a pencil with you to write the information for each one.
- Take the book truck to the appropriate floor according to the first book.
- Pull a book off of the truck, and using the call number found on the pink slip, find the matching book.
- You will be comparing both books looking at several items. Answer the following questions.
- Is our copy's cover in good condition? If our copy has taped spine, is paper bound, or coming apart, then make a brief note of it on the remarks section of the pink slip.
- How is the text part of the book? If our copy is has too many markings, such as underling, make a brief note in the remarks section.
- How is our copy's binding? If you find there are loose pages, the cover is falling apart, etc, make note of this as well.
- If our copy is in better condition than the gift copy, then write a check mark next to the call number on the slip. If our copy is missing, draw a small circle next to the call number.
- Repeat steps 3-5 until all the books have been looked at.
- Place the completed book truck in the library director's office found in Acquisitions.
