Music Compact Disk Procedures

  1. Search OCLC using music publisher number as first search key choice. Select appropriate OCLC number and write it on a sticky note, affix it to the disk cover. Also write any observed inconsistencies on a sticky note for the attention of the cataloger. If there are multiple records, write down all of them, but underline the best one, which will be downloaded. Disks with only one record to download are sent to Acquisitions.
  2. (Search key for music publisher is mn: followed by 1-2 letters and first 1-10 numbers, i.e. mn:co197951
  3. Acquisitions downloads records, deleting call numbers, and changing LMRM to LMRA
  4. Cataloger edits record, and adds call number from pre-typed label and barcode(s). pay particular attention to uniform titles, and that each title on compact disk is searchable.
  5. Cataloger puts call number label on upper left corner of front cover, and barcode on upper right back cover. Call number is written with felt pen on compact disk itself. If there are multiple copies or volumes, the call number is placed on a sticky label with multiple volume/copy information as would be placed on order card. These are given to students for label typing and attachment.
  6. Complete music compact disks are delivered to Media Services.
