Moving Books to Circulations

This procedure

  • The Cataloging Assistant reviews and releases truck of books newly processed by student employee.
  • The Library Director does quality control check on all books on truck.
  • Library Director takes book truck to Reference Desk.
  • Reference librarians pulls all Reference and Heritage books from the book truck and takes the time to review the new books.
  • When Reference alerts Cataloging Assistant that books are ready to go to the New Book shelf, he retrieves the truck and takes it back to Tech Services.
  • Cataloging Assistant directs Tech Services student employee to get an empty book truck from Circulation. The student employee is to load all books currently on the New Book shelf on this truck, and bring it back to Tech Services.
  • The student employee changes the status of the books just removed from the New Books shelf from New Books to Available by manually checking in each book.
    1. Log into Millennium Circulation/Interlibrary Loans.
    2. Select “Check-In” Module.
    3. Scan item barcode into system.
    4. A window will appear asking to if you want to clear status. Select “Yes”. Item status has now been changed to Available.
  • The student employee takes this book truck to Circulation for shelving.
  • Cataloging Assistant passes on the truck with books now destined for the New Book shelf to the student employee to change the status on these books from Coming Soon to New Books.
  • The student employee manually changes each item record to indicate the New Books status.
    1. Log into Millennium Cataloging.
    2. Scan item barcode. This brings up attached item record.
    3. Change Item Record Status “c” (Coming Soon) to “w” (New Books).
    4. Save work and close record.
  • The student employee takes this book truck out and notifies Circulation that they are ready to be put on the New Book shelves.
